Liber Novus 2.0

Is a project curated and developed by Xhristina Sarli: an augmented reality app that brings together 24 artists from diverse backgrounds and disciplines around the world to co-create a collective piece.

Inspired by Liber Novus, also known as The Red Book by Carl Gustav Jung, each artist was randomly assigned a page. I received page 55, and it resonated with me instantly.

I approached this project intuitively. Without reading any interpretations of the page, I spent time with the image, letting its symbols and creatures speak to me. From that emerged a story, which became a poem, then an illustration of the incredible fish—and finally, two videos, one created in stop motion.

The Poem I created

Resonant disc, make it sound.
Let its vibration extend to the abyss.
The one who knows the deep darkness
rises to the surface.

The monster,
the being that seems foreign to me,
comes to meet me.
An invitation to face
what I fear,
what I deny,
what I hide.
What paralyzes me
becomes imminent.

If you choose to follow the great fish,
it will guide you through the unknown path.
Close your eyes:
you do not need to see
in the dark night of the soul.

The third eye, sacred compass,
will illuminate your way.
